X In February, as new members of HouseSitMexico, we posted our first ad for a sitter to care for our home in La Paz, BCS. Numerous excellent candidates applied, among them, Carol and Mike M., whom we ultimately chose. We recognize this has been a very difficult house sit position as the house is undergoing extensive renovations, our loaned vehicle has had some mechanical problems, and occasionally the household water system has faltered. Yet, through it all, this couple have been cheerful, accommodating, and willing to extend themselves to be helpful and implement solutions. On every day of construction, when the chaos subsides and workers have gone home, these house sitters take photos of the day’s activities for our review. This process has been invaluable in helping us to identify and circumvent construction errors in the moment, saving everyone time and money. When the car was acting up, Mike undertook to work with our local mechanic to diagnose and correct the problem. Same goes for addressing water system failures. We know it is wretched to awake and discover you have no running water, yet this top-notch team did not even express their distress. Rather, they took it in stride and immediately set about curing the problem. In short, Carol and Mike are friendly, responsible and communicative. They have provided stellar service under difficult circumstances for which we are eternally grateful. We know we chose the right house sitters for us and can, without reservation, recommend them to you. You will not be disappointed!

Communication in advance was clear and open. Ken set us up on his car insurance within a few days. We met Ken and his wife, Wendes, for a handover a couple of days before they left their home. They collected us from the airport and showed us around the town and some of their favourite haunts. That night we went for an excellent meal and began to get to know each other and became friends. They collected us from the airport and showed us around the town and some of their favourite haunts. That night we went for an excellent meal and began to get to know each other and became friends. They thoroughly explained what they wanted us to do to look after their house, gardens and cats and introduced us to the project manager who was overseeing renovations on the casa. (We lived in the casita). We instantly felt at ease and at home. Ken and Wendes are very flexible and will grant any reasonable request. They are generous people with big hearts. They are warm and funny, with great senses of humour, and are excellent conversationalists. They are calm, down to earth and trustworthy. The casita is beautifully stylish and highly functional. Despite being a “casita” it lacks nothing. There is an excellent range of local attractions, restaurants, taquerias and shops, one of which is 24/7, plus the usual large stores. 100% recommended.

Kim was a wonderful sitter for our puppy Maizey and for our home. She bonded with the dog and provided lots of walks in various places and environments, which was fantastic for the development of our puppy. They even had a regular breakfast date (bacon for Maizey). Kim sent us photos almost everyday, came to get us from the airport when we returned and had a pot of homemade spaghetti sauce for dinner! We had Shawn and Laura for a shorter term house/pet sitting and can't say enough good things about them. We had at the time 2 large dogs and 2 cats to look after. Not only did they do a fabulous job of looking after the house but the animals sure loved them! Since we live in a sort of rural neighborhood they also fed our outside visiting animals, especially mama pig. We could not have asked for anyone better and we highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a responsible, loving couple.

I had the wonderful opportunity to stay at Jan’s house and take care of her relatively new rescue, Sylvester. Sylvester was a little shy at first but by day 2, he was up on the bed and sleeping with me. He still is very independent, with a pet door and the run of the house and yard. Jan gave excellent instructions and provided anything possibly needed to care for Sylvester. The house has a delightful patio with comfy furniture…my refuge each evening. I truly am grateful for the opportunity to do this housesit…and I look forward to seeing both Jan and Sylvester next time I’m in town!

If I could, I’d give 10 stars to Dave and Sue. Simply wonderful, caring, loving sitters for my year old rescue pup. They welcomed her in their bed, played ball endlessly, modified her diet when tummy issues surfaced, bathed her and offered plenty of cuddles. When I needed to extend my trip by 5 days they immediately rearranged their own plans to accommodate mine. Susan was punctual on arrival. She left the place exactly as she found it - spotless with everything in place. My cat got friendlier to her every day I was gone and by the last few days was sleeping beside her - hearty praise from an aloof cat. I felt comfortable that she could handle any emergencies that might arise, though non did. I would recommend her highly to anyone looking for a pet or house sitter.

Sometimes your schedule fails and you need your sitter to adapt. Louise and Steve fit the bill. I had a helter-skelter schedule with friends flying in and out mixed with a trip within Mexico. Never frazzled Louise and Steve. That went beyond the call of duty putting Bella, my dog, first making sure she was fed, watered, walked and above all loved. What a pleasure it was to housesit for Gloria this month. Her house and garden is beautiful, with country views of Lake Chapala. Bella, her German Shepherd was so sweet and lovable. We walked her twice a day. She loved her outings and behaved very well on the leash. Our room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed the warm breezy evenings on the patio with a glass of wine. We would not hesitate to housesit for Gloria in the future.
