Then when Kris’s caretaker decided to retire a year later, she reached out to see if we were available to housesit for a few months until she could get down to Mexico. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity, and she was flexible on dates as we were finishing up another housesit. The house in Mahahual is awesome. Maybe 30 ft from the edge of the Caribbean to the huge back screened porch. It looks just like her photos. But now she has fixed up the casita which is as cute as can be and so Beachy in its decor and that’s where Housesitters stay as occasionally she rents the big house on Air BB. The casita is a few more feet from the ocean but still has an amazing ocean view from the living room. It has a full kitchen with new appliances and new AC. Kris is great at communicating. She and I still keep in touch a lot. We wanted to go do the housesit she posted for summer 2024, but we were already committed to another housesit. When we were there, Robert had the best time catching huge fish from the beach and the sea kayaks are great to paddle around the bay. Even when sargasso washed in now and then in August or September, the beach on one side of the house or the other was always clear to get in the water(depending on if the wind was blowing from NE or SE.). So don’t let the QRoo reports of sargasso scare you away. Definitely try to have a car as the house is 20 minute drive from town and taxis are hard to come by out the beach road. But there is a great little hotel restaurant a mile or two further north if you don’t want to cook and there are neighbors around on both sides usually, so you aren’t out there by yourself. We met a lot of great people via the neighborhood WhatsApp group and it’s also a great source for info if you need something. But Kris is always available via WhatsApp too. The house and casita have a solar system with battery backup so you don’t have to deal with electrical outages. They have starlink sat. Wifi that works great. We hope to get to housesit for them again in 2025.

Rick stayed with us in the Fall of 2023 and watched our place for 5 weeks. He is very handy at fixing things which was helpful when something goes wrong and I very much appreciated. Cared for the pool and was good with the visiting Kitty and dog who are not ours but seem to have adopted us. Good at communication. We would have Rick back again forsure Kris & Ben

Had a wonderful stay with Lia's six cats. They were all wonderful indoor cats who were friendly, sweet and easy too care for. Her house is in a great location for access to downtown Playa and the beach. And it's only a block away from the grocery store. House included a pool. Lia was so kind to let me stay a few extra days, especially during a passing hurricane. I also enjoyed helping her with animal rescue as that's what I've done back in the States. I hope to see the cats and Lia again.

This was our first time using House Sit Mexico. I have to admit we were a little bit unsure of this process when we started, however everything turned out wonderfully. For some unknown reason, one of the glass panels decided to shatter and come crashing down, spraying glass bits absolutely all over the place. No one was hurt, thankfully. They sprang into action immediately to get the glass cleaned up so that the cats could soon enjoy their outdoor space again. Herb and Fernando are genuinely nice guys, and you'll feel like you've been friends forever! As I said, we'll be availing ourselves of their house- and cat-sitting services again.
