Sept – Oct: By the Ocean in El Pescadero, No Pets! Flexible + Car
El Pescadero / Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico
We are looking for a responsible, self-sufficient individual to stay at our house near the ocean in El Pescadero. Our dates are flexible. The space is not air conditioned but there is a swimming pool and the breeze off the ocean helps a lot. We are able to offer the use of our Toyota Prius for local errands.
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
The San Pedrito Beach neighborhood in El Pescadero is a wonderful mix of seaside retreats and active farming, with lush crops of peppers, basil, and more. El Pescadero is just about an hour up the coast from the Cabo San Lucas airport and 15 minutes south of the town of Todos Santos, a historic and vibrant arts center that has been designated as a Pueblo Mágico. There are both desert and coastal hikes, a surfing scene at the beaches in Los Cerritos and San Pedrito, and unique beach areas like the lagoon in Todos Santos and Playa de las Palmas. Local produce and fish are fantastic, but eating out is tempting – delicious and inexpensive. Local recreation opportunities abound: pickleball club, surf school, ecotours, horseback riding, and more.
OUR HOUSE
Casa Que Bonita was built by a Dutch artist and her German husband whose eye for design and proportion created magical interior spaces that capitalize on the beautiful light and views of its garden/farm/mountain/ocean setting. It is a unique blend of local elements like authentic saltillo with an eclectic collection of art and furniture gathered over a lifetime. The entire house is flooded with natural light, especially from the 8-foot tall Moorish-inspired windows facing both NE and NW. The entrance to the 1/2 acre gated property is a driveway through a garden of lush palm and flowering trees.
As a house sitter, your main residence will be the upper floor apartment, which consists of an open living / dining / kitchen area plus a large bedroom / sitting area with a king bed and large ¾ bath. Its kitchen is relatively compact, but offers a refrigerator, 2-burner induction stove, toaster oven, microwave, coffeemaker, electric kettle, and plenty of dishes, flatware, pans, and utensils. The large west-facing terrace overlooks the ocean, farm fields, and mountains and is a perfect place to take in the gorgeous Baja sunsets. When the main floor is unoccupied, you are welcome to enjoy the east and west terraces of the main floor as well.
Both floors have independent entrances and access to the pool, which is maintained by a weekly pool service, and the washing machine on the ground floor. There is no dryer but a clothesline works great. Reliable internet service is provided through Baja Connect.
Be alert for problems or damage and let us know as soon as possible if you see any changes or issues.
Keep up with weekly cleaning and care for all surfaces (especially avoiding any grease on the unsealed saltillo tiles on the main floor and its terraces).
Flush all toilets and run all taps at least once a week.
Keep an eye out for critters and let us know when a visit from the exterminator is due.
Conserve water and electricity.
If a storm is coming, move terrace furniture into house for the duration and close storm gates on all doors.
Since the house has two separate living areas, we might want to host guests or short-term renters on occasion on the main floor to help cover the monthly costs of gardener, pool maintenance, internet, water, electricity, etc. We would ask that you act as host for those visits by coordinating a cleaning in advance, welcoming the guests upon their arrival, and being an on-site contact in case of questions or requests. I would make all other arrangements in coordination with our property manager.
