Patzcuaro House/Pet Sit (4+ Months)
Pátzcuaro, Mich, Mexico
This house sit is for 3 beloved kitties (Shimmer, Honey & Bailey) in our very private home, a short 10-15 min walk to downtown Patzcuaro, one of the most cherished Pueblo Mágicos in Mexico!
The location is in Fracc. La Loma (known locally as Lomas Altas). If you don't have a vehicle, we do live up a significant hill (with beautiful views), but you will need to be in shape to walk about 5 min or less up to our home from Avenida Lazaro Cardenas (or take a taxi with groceries). Some find the hike up invigorating, others have wanted a taxi whenever they left - just depends on what you're up for. The entrance from the street is a secure gate, and when opened fully, you can drive your vehicle inside and park in the front yard. There are 3 houses on the property: the first rental is used for someone's business storage, the 2nd has an American gentleman who's been here for 17 years, and our home is the furthest from the street - about 40 meters - so it is VERY quiet! The fraccionamiento is peaceful and private, and you can leave your vehicle on the street without worry of vandalism or being stolen (use your own discretion). The sunset views are breathtaking over the city of Patzcuaro and a partial view of the lake. (Amazon, FedEx and Estafeta will need to call your phone number so you can open the main gate for them to deliver any packages.)
The master bedroom has a new (purchased June 2024) Sealy Posturepedic king size bed with down comforter and quality linens for your stay. There's an attached full bathroom en suite, as well as a half bathroom down the hallway (for guests). The kitchen is perfect if you like to cook. If needed, there's an additional bedroom with a full size bed (matrimonial) which is my 8 year old daughter's bedroom.
There is fibre optic Internet service more than suitable for streaming and/or working from home. There is a small yard out front, and we have a gardener who comes by once or twice a week to care for the yard plants/watering (depending on the season). Housekeeping is expected by the house/pet sitter but a trusted cleaning lady can be arranged for 300 pesos per visit (deeper cleaning, changing sheets, etc.) to be paid by the house/pet sitter. There is no television or television service, but a large 32" screen in my office which you can stream using any service on your laptop or tablet - HDMI cord will be provided. (Internet service will be paid in advance for Sept - Dec.)
Fur babies: Shimmer is 13 years old and is my pampered baby. She may like to be around you or sleep on the end of the bed, but she's not overly bothersome and mostly stays to herself sleeping on her blanket on the couch, except at meal times at which time she gets very vocal. Bailey, our tabby rescue from when he was abandoned on the street as a tiny kitten, is nearly 3 years old and is a little aloof. He only likes head scratches when he's sleepy. We found out this year per our vet that his hair/fur loss is due to an allergy to fleas and so he needs flea medicine applied at the beginning of every month (which will be provided). We're hoping his beautiful fur will grow back! Honey, is a very friendly mature black cat (~10 years old) and loves newcomers. She's the cuddlebug of the 3. As most cats, ours are low maintenance. All of them go to the bathroom outside (through my office window), so there is no stinky litter box to maintain (whew!) We would prefer a house sitter who's used to kitties and tenderly caring for them.
Should you want to travel outside of the immediate area, there are many local taxi options and of course local combis that service all the small towns around Lake Patzcuaro.
Open to a single or couple for the housesit. Please only non-smokers should apply.

Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of the home during house sit
- Ensure kitties are fed according to instructions (a combination of wet and dry food) and clean, maintain their running communal water bowl
- Purchase kitty food as arranged with the owner during the housesit (owner's expense)
- Trash days are Tues, Thurs, & Sat mornings (leaving about 20 pesos each time you leave trash out front on trash days) (house sitter's expense)
- We have an all in one washer/dryer that we can show you how to use. Clothes don't "fully" dry, but hanging for 20 min on the line after the dry cycle does the trick
- Paying the gardener (we will make arrangements during this long term housesit) (owner's expense)
- Paying the light bill every 2 months (owner's expense - not to exceed 500 pesos / 2 months)
- Start owner's vehicle every week and let run for 20 min (per manufacturer recommendation) such that the battery life will be maintained
- Address any maintenance issues that may arise with the owner's trusted handy man should the need arise
- Provide a weekly update to the owner via email or Telegram (the messaging app preferred by the owner)
- (If you're the gardening type and would prefer light gardening/watering of plants, we can limit the gardener to only mowing the lawn and leave flowerbeds and watering to the house sitter.)
