Apr 26 – May 23: Experience Village Life in Ajijic w/ 1 Great Dog
Ajijic, Jal, Mexico
Ajijic centro, which is in Jalisco. 2 story + mirador home with good internet and TV availability. Large kitchen with adjoining living room, and terrace, including garden. AjIjic is an interesting Pueblo magico, with much charm.
2 different internet possibilities at home: Starlink, + Telmex. Mesh units available in all living areas. Firesticks in all TVs.
It may get warm at this time of year, so AC is available in master bedroom. Otherwise, there are overhead fans during the day, as well as good breezes coming off the lake, or sometimes down the mountains.
There are local busses along the caraterra, which is about 3 blocks north of the house. They can take you east to Walmart and into Chapala (between those 2 is Superlake, an americanized grocery store), or west to west Ajijic and Jocotopec. There is a bus station in town, and a larger one in Chapala. There are also taxis of course and local drivers. You don't need a car (ours is not included), as you can certainly get around on foot to do shopping for food, or anything else. Toritos is an in-town grocery store, on Revolución where the Wednesday morning market is. Interesting restaurants nearby, including Scallion's and Alex's Pasta.
About 2 blocks east from here, on the same street, is the Lake Chapala Society (LCS), a major resource and gathering place for expats and locals. A 1 month membership is avaliable (not included in offer).
1 block south is Lake Chapala, and its beautiful malecon, a lively area with a park, and some restaurants and cafes nearby. The sunset picture on our cover page is not uncommon, but you have to be there at the right moment.
2 blocks north and then 2 block east is the zocalo, with many restaurants there and on the way, and various cultural events. The San Andres church is near there as well.
YOU probably need to be a person who likes to walk, including on uneven cobblestone streets, and climbs steps well, as our house has a couple of sets of stairs. A couple would be fine, but no kids please, and none of your own pets. That would make Fagan crazy, especially a cat. The house is strictly non-smoking, although there are 2 patios and a mirador if you feel the urge. Other guests beyond yourself or -selves are not welcome.
We have a gardner who visits 2x per week, and cleaning ladies every other Saturday morning, although we expect you to keep the place tidy - for them, for us, and for yourself.
Responsibilities
Fagan, our 20 lb. (10 kilogram) Terrier mix breed, is about 6 years old. He needs to be walked twice a day at least, and we usually take him to the malecon and back in the mid morning and early evening. You can always take him with you on your walks around town, although it's not really reccomended for the Wednesday morning mercado, as there are so many dogs there, many very territorial. He needs to be fed, 1 scoop twice a day, and watered as well of course. He is not allowed up on any furniture or beds, with 1 exception, the armchair in the TV room. Please respect this, and all his training, which includes no table scraps, and no digging in the gardens. Otherwise he goes into any room, and loves to run and check the mirador to see if there are any cats or other critters up there (there aren't), but he also enjoys being up there, anytime you feel like it. (We don't want him to pee up there, so don't let him up until he has been out in the morning. )He is very sociable, and always wants to be where the people are.
His command for stay or stop is "wait," and when we leave him in the house while running errands, "You're gonna wait," or "guarda la casa."
There are a small number of INDOOR plants that need water, usually Wednesday morning, once a week. The gardener cares for all the outdoor plants, and comes through the house to get up to the mirador. He is totally trustworthy, and if you speak slowly, his English is good.
