Beachfront Property Mexican Caribbean – Flexible Time Period

Mahahaul/Rio Indio/San Antonio, QR, Mexico

We have this posted with hopes of having sitters for a longer stay, but we would be happy for sitters who come for a shorter stay, and then switch out with different people. We would prefer 2 month min. stay if that would work best for someone but longer if possible.  PLEASE contact for more questions.

Our home is located beachfront on the Mexican Caribbean about 20 minutes from the town and the cruise port of Mahahual, Mexico.

We are right on the beach - literally 30 feet from the ocean.   You can kayak, swim, fish and snorkel And dive right from our property.   Our property has a s 24x12 beach front pool and is on 120 feet  of beachfront by 58 meters deep, with lots of palm trees and sand. We have a  garden with local flowers and plants and some potted plants.

The Main house has 2 separate living areas. upstairs is one living area and the main house is the lower living area each has  2 private bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms which we do rent during this time period when we can. The weather here is almost always in the low to high 80’s.The casita is behind the main house and is where our Housesitters stay and is beach themed and cute suitable for 1 or 2 persons.

Housesitters are welcome to use the main house when we are not renting many use the dining/Kitchen area to work remotely and enjoy the views and the lanai. We also have a beach front pool that is lovely.

We have 2 pets: 1 dog dicey and 1 cat kitty which are lovely and you will soon fall in love with them.

The house has Starlink Internet and we have a whole property solar system with CFE back up.   Where we are located is just lovely most of the time with breezes nearly all the time, ocean views and we love our palm tress! Great shade all year around.

We love to sit in the sand on one of our lounge chairs you will have your own as well and or in a hammock and enjoy the ocean views and read a book, Play cards under the palm tress. We enjoy the breezes here  and often go exploring ourselves or take day trips to find new places to explore in Costa Maya.  A car of your own is a must here to enjoy the area. We love to a  enjoy a campfire on the beach, which you can too at night.  We ourselves go out to eat once a week in Mahahual or up the beach road to a restaurant the only one on the beach road itself, so you will be able to enjoy eating out. There are several places in Mahahual to eat.

We have a small casita, suitable for a couple or single, which is where our house sitters stay.  that way they have thier own house  The casita has a full kitchen, bathroom and living area, queen bed. There are 2 ceiling fans, AC  & Starlink WIFI.  It is right behind the main beach house.  The Beach garden separates the two.  It has an ocean and beach view from some of its windows.

The casita also shares the Starlink internet   It is not an ethernet connection but satellite.   There are also lots of windows and we almost ALWAYS have breezes all the time, except August and September can have dead wind days.

There is local transportation as in you can take a taxi in and out of town, but we highly recommend you rent or bring your own car or motorbike to really enjoy this area and explore the surrounding sites especially if you love to explore. We have an excellent taxi driver who has been just wonderful and he has taken people in and out of town he charges 150 pesos for 1 way and many of our guests have used him and Housesitters to. We are 20 minutes from town.We do have a motorbike available for our house sitter to run in and out of town with.

We are considered semi-remote, although town is 20 minutes away.  There are 2 doctors in town and Mahahual is a busy cruise port with many  (small stores). Speaking Spanish would be helpful to you but many people use a translation app.

The location is rural Mexico on the beach and the ocean. Mahahual and where we live on the north beach is much like Tulum was 25 years ago. If you love an adventure with the beach, ocean and a very bumpy beach road and to be busy with doing things for a couple of hours  each day this is for you. If you have a pet you're welcome to bring it as long as it gets along with other animals.

The ADO bus and combi come into Mahahual from the nearest airport which is Chetumal, There is also the new Tulum airport as well which we use and love and Cancun Airport. And the Maya train is running  running now and  near us :)  There are taxi services to and from Mahahual that our rental guests use if they don’t have a car to go in and out of town. If you're looking for a longer stay and like to be somewhat busy, love the outdoors, this might be the perfect housesit for you.

This is the Mexican Caribbean and there will be tropical storms and possibly a hurricane which is rare but could happen. Please be aware this is normal here and you need to be ok with that.  If your uncomfortable with tropical weather this will not be a good fit for you.

You will have you own hammock and lounge chair to enjoy on the beach. Also outdoor table with chairs to eat on the Beach. Something we love to do should you chose.

why is our listing open ended.... Because for the first time we will be welcoming sitters year around as we like to travel to other parts of Mexico and so the ad is open ended.

Responsibilities

What we need...

Someone to watch our property be the eyes and keep things secure, you would have to be here at night.  The house cannot be left alone at night. We have gates and fence plus 3 security camera’s. It is safe, people vacation here all the time but we are considered REMOTE in that we are not in a town or city but literally on the beach proper. as You can see photos with very few houses within 2 km from us. Although we do have neighbors on each side of us 2 lots away. Our neighbors on the one side do not live here but do rent their place out. Neighbors to the south have a small campground.

You will be responsible to take care of the pool so knowledge of pool maintenance is good but we can also teach you. On the beach there is no such thing as a pool man here. We do our own. So knowledge of basic stuff is necessary We use a leaf blower to clean around the pool and  the walkways on the property, or we sweep also it works on the sand for light clean up such as leaves ect...

Take care of the garden once a week.

Change out the gas tanks when and if needed while you stay. We have propane hot water and propane stoves.  Bring trash to the outside fence on trash pick up day which is every 2 weeks.

Keep the property clean as in rake the sand,  pick up coconuts on the sand and palms branches that fall every few days or as needed even once a week when guests are not present is fine,  with the wheelbarrow. Plan on spending  2 hours  day doing this type of thing (I am 61 for reference). After that the rest of day is free. And some maintenance of on the house and casita if it arises like fix a screen if it blows out, oil hinges that kind of stuff. fix a toilet if it’s leaking ect...maintenance needs when living this close to the ocean and is a must because of the salt. You have to be handy to live here, it is the way of life, like being to change a handle or broken hinge or things like that. We like to do this ourselves as we enjoy it and we like to be a little bit busy... If you're this type of couple or person you will enjoy it here.

POOL- maintain the pool - as in chlorinate and vac. ect...

Maintain the main beach house. As in oil hinges 1 time a month, fix anything minor that breaks things like that. clean between guests if needed. currently I have a cleaner but they come and go and are hard to find here. So it would be greatly appreciated to find a person and or couple good with that.

Maintain the small garden as in water once a week, Some trimming everything grows fast here once a month.keep the flowers and plants happy

There could be a guests in the Main house on either level as it is 2 living areas some of the time,   so we need you to make sure the house is ready for their arrival as in toilet paper in the bathrooms make the beds up check the shower stalls we usually spray them with chloral and water, I currently do have someone I can call to clean,. please ask for more details.

Being a handy fix it type person/couple is a MUST in this area because finding service people is very difficult and then often cannot get to you for a few days to a week, there are so few. We do have a property cleaner type guy coming once a month to help.  I have more details for this for those who are interested. The beach road is a rough road like many beach roads in Mexico there are 2 entrances to go and leave from the house. Fun for an adventurous single or couple. We are the roll-with-it type of people because we have to be to live here. Weather is in the 80’s - 90”s” in the Caribbean in the summers and September. Please message with any questions.

I know we have this posted for a long stay but we would be happy for a  shorter stay and a different people. We would prefer 2 month min. stay if that would work best for someone but longer if possible, PLEASE contact for more questions.   Ben & Kris
