Six Months in Guanajuato! Care for Our 4 Dogs + Welcome to Bring Yours
Guanajuato, Gto, Mexico
We are Hans & Susi, retired German doctors holding permanent residency in Mexico, looking for sitters for our house and care for our 4 sweet and easy to handle adopted dogs Lisa, Whitey, Tommy and Blanca for about six months this summer (2026). We had the experience that a long term sit like ours is not well suited for a single person, therefore we prefer a couple or afamily who loves dog walks outdoors in nature at least twice a day after sunrise and before sunset preferably on one of our hilly standard routes (1,5 to 3+ miles – dirt road, trails and single trails).
Our house is situated in Valenciana, a highly regarded part of Guanajuato City high on a hill at an altitude of 7000 feet with fabulous views overlooking the city and mountains around us. Opening the door the endless sierra starts right in the back of the house, offers plenty of opportunities: trails, forests, creeks and a large water reservoir. Our dogs go unleashed all the time without ever having any problems. Encounters with other dogs are friendly.
Public bus to the center has its last turnaround stop right in front of the house, the trip to the center takes less than 15 minutes. We will also provide a car. Next tienda is 200 meters, next large supermarket, Oxxo, Italian pizzeria, drug store with pharmacy, purified water distributor, gas station and more shops are in 3 km on the way to the center.
Guanajuato itself is the colourful capital of Guanajuato State and a popular tourist destination among Mexicans. The colonial city center sits in a canyon with steep alleys and stairs, an UNESCO heritage site about 90 km west of San Miguel de Allende and much more authentic “Mexican” than SMA. International airport is 25 km away (Leon BJX). GTO has a large university plus philharmonic orchestra and offers lots of cultural events, museums, old mines etc. Some of our previous housesitters fell so much in love with Guanajuato during their stay that they got their own places here and therefore cannot sit for us any more (but they offered to be of assistance to new housesitters in case of need).
To get a better impression on how the city looks like we recommend to watch this video

The time frame will be from last week in April until second week in November 2026. Basic cleaning service once a week is provided. The house has 3 floors, 4 bedrooms with baths plus a casita with its own kitchenette and bath, a spacious carport, 2 terraces and large rooftop. High speed internet in all floors, three separate office-like workplaces. No TV but a 2 x 3 meter screen and HD-projector for watching videos, movies etc. in the 3rd floor studio, in addition two 5.1, one 3.1 and two pure stereo audio-systems.
Our friend and architect David and his crew will help with any problems in and around the house!
A dog of your own will be very welcome.
Absolutely essential is:
- Living with our dogs, loving our dogs and walking with our dogs.
- 2 to 3 times a week water our plants, which will take some 30 minutes.
