Family Emergency! Dog Sitter Needed Approx. 2 Months
San Miguel de Allende, Gto, Mexico
This is my first time using this site for pet and home care. I recently joined because I need to return to the United States for approximately two months due to a family emergency. My elderly mother has had a stroke, and I will be helping my siblings care for her.
Because I’ve never been away from my dogs for such a long period of time, finding the right person is very important to me. I would especially appreciate someone with good references and experience caring for dogs. Knowing they are happy, loved, and well cared for will allow me to give my full attention to my mother and family while I’m away.
I’m very grateful to have a bright, spacious, and comfortable home in the Colonia La Lejona of San Miguel de Allende. It’s a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the city, while still being conveniently located near many popular areas. The backyard has a built-in swimming pool, a covered patio, and a small garden area—perfect for enjoying San Miguel’s beautiful weather.
The home has whole house water filtration, with reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap.
The most important part of my home, however, is my two dogs. They truly are my whole world, and I’m hoping to find a sitter who will enjoy giving them plenty of affection, companionship, and cuddles while I’m away.
My larger dog, Luna, is extremely smart, sweet, and affectionate. She can be reactive when someone first enters the house, meaning she becomes very excited and vocal, but she has never been aggressive. Once the initial excitement passes, she settles down quickly and becomes a very loving, cuddly companion.
My smaller dog, Papi is equally sweet and absolutely loves attention—especially when he sees Luna getting some! Both dogs are very well behaved overall, although they can become quite enthusiastic when someone first arrives home.
I have worked extensively with both dogs and use only positive reinforcement training. When they become overly excited, I never yell at or scold them. Instead, I turn away and withhold attention until they sit or settle down, and then reward the calm behavior with praise and affection.
Because consistency is important to me, I’m looking for a sitter who understands and is comfortable using positive reinforcement and who will continue this approach while I’m away. Anyone considering the stay should be comfortable with Luna’s somewhat boisterous initial greeting. Once that brief excitement is over, both dogs are easygoing, affectionate, and wonderful company.
My home has two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a Murphy bed and the other with a heavy futon. There are also two full bathrooms on the first floor, along with a spacious living room and dining room. Outside, you’ll find the swimming pool and a comfortable covered patio.
The location is very convenient for everyday needs. It’s an easy walk to City Market or La Comer for grocery shopping, less than a mile from the popular San Antonio neighborhood, and less than a block from a bus line.
If you enjoy affectionate dogs, are comfortable with positive reinforcement training, and feel that this might be a good fit for you, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for considering caring for my home and my two very special companions.
One or ideally two walks per day
Heartworm medication on the 20th of each month
Twice daily feedings
Keeping the home clean and cared for, inside and out. This would include daily pick up of puppy poops, regular plant watering, and mowing a very small patch of lawn every 7 to 10 days depending upon need.
Being home and available to allow the pool cleaner to come each Tuesday morning at 8 AM.
Not leaving the dogs at home alone for longer than a five hour stint.
