Great Location: Birdseye View in San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende, Gto, Mexico
Hello and thank you for your interest! I need to be on the east coast by Jul 1st. So I'm planning to leave around Jun 23rd. I like to leave on Sundays so maybe the 21st is better. And could be back by August 1st but it could be mid-August or late august.... but that's doubtful..... I have tried to line up a back-up person for a week or two, so I could be more specific in this ad. But that hasn't firmed up yet. I do appreciate how important it is for sitters to be able to plan. So please share any limitations you have and maybe I'll need a second ad. I'm just intent on getting this process going without every detail ironed out, as it's the most stressful part of traveling.
One house sitter described my apartment like being in a treehouse, as it's on the 3rd floor with windows on 3 sides so lots of airflow and light. It's cute, about 850 sf with a rooftop (views of the Parrochia and the San Antonio Church). In fact, it's in the heart of Colonia San Antonio near the church, the Ancha (main street with cafes, eateries and the organic market Mercado Sano) and an easy walk to 2 main grocery stores (passing oodles more restaurants along the way). Bonus if you're a tennis player, as courts are super close too. To Centro and the Parrochia it's about a 15-20 minute walk.
Ultimately, this is a pretty modest apartment, but comfortable. The kitchen is small (a little galley K) but it has all the appliances you could need. Large garrafones of water will be provided, just make sure there is ample upon my return. The bed is a double. The couch is in fact a twin day-bed which allows for nice snuggling witht the animals while reading or watching tv, sorry no paid channels, only the free options on the firestick. With some housesitters he has snuggled on their chest.
Internet is fiber optic and the roof has deck chairs for further enjoyment.
Of special note: The church can be noisy, it is a cultural hub for the locals. There is also a neighbor dog whom sadly they leave out a few nights a week and it barks. Honestly, no one has complained about that. Ear plugs are recommended if you're sensitive and I have a white-noise machine by the bed. Lastly, the stairs to get to the apartment are steep and a bit narrow. The stairs to the roof are a caracol and not super wide either.
I'm more inclined to share images of the place via our virtual meetings for privacy sake. I don't like living life online. I hope you understand. I'm also trying to get this up without too much more delay and things need to be tidied. I attached a pic of the LR before I moved in to give you a sense of the space. The big chairs are gone and day bed is parallel with other couch.
I prefer an individual, but will consider a couple. If you are going to want to have guests, that is something we need to discuss first.
I like to be communicated with daily or close to. Ultimately, if we could meet in advance so you can get acquainted with us and the space that would be ideal.
There is a cleaning lady that comes for 1 hr early in the week and 4 hours at the end of the week. She only speaks spanish, so it's helpful if you have some. She maintains the outdoor plants. You'll need to water the ones inside (not many).
I know I need to beef up the photos on here but that needs to be done after cleaning lady has left. I don't often need housesitters, so I forget about this until I need to post an ad.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to ask any questions.
The reason for the open-ended date, which I know adds complexity, so I apologize, is becaise I have to deal with some bureacracy while back in the states and I'm hopeful I can get things wrapped up quickly and easily, but some of it will be out of my control.
Feel free to ask any questions if I've missed something. Again, thank you and best wishes!

Responsibilities
You must love and have compassion for cats. The cat is male, almost 11 yrs old, sweet and social. I tend to worry about him because I know he misses me a lot when I do these larger trips. When people have been cavalier and left him alone many many hours a day or even overnight when they've agreed to be here, he hasn't done well. He isn't the healthiest cat and stress exacerbates things. He has some gum disease so feeding is the highest maintenance aspect. He eats mostly canned food that I mix sometimes with raw chix and some other herbs etc for him. He throws up, sometimes frequently, so I don't overfeed. He will probably sleep with you, or near you on the bed. He loves the rooftop and goes up several times a day, but during the heat he's been spending a lot of time in the laundry basket in the closet. It's good to check there if you get nervous he's somehow escaped! I give him A LOT of affection. I talk to him, give him lots of kisses and tell him how handsome he is, so that's why someone who really likes kitties is the best for us.There is a cleaning lady that comes for 1 hr early in the week and 4 hours at the end of the week. Additional Information
www.DiscoverSMA.com has listings of local events.www.lokkal.com also has events with a heavy art focus, the last I checked.
Mexperience.com provides a lot of seasonal info by region and info about moving here if that is of interest.
If you're not familiar with "coffee" made from Mezquite check out the Mezquite Cafe in Mercado Sano (downstairs). It's caffeine free and YUM. A lot of folks gather at Sano, both inside and out. The organic food there can be spendy but it's super convenient for quick things. The Saturday farmers mkt is there as well.
Fave restaurants: Pork Belly (a couple blocks away), Rustica (GREAT breakfast) a few more blocks away, Panina (good sourdough and breakfast), Oko Noodle Bar, Tostevere, and if you're vegan Don Taco on Hernandez Macias is a good one.
Cool wine bar on Relox, called Brutal (I guess it can mean "something great" in spanish), Rain Dog (good music venue and bar) and Allende craft-beer has happy hour on Tuesdays. All of the above are in walking distance and there's so much more to explore. Also, had a great meal at Brasserie Salvajes if you like French food. (Centro)
There's also a gym (Wolf's) and yoga across the street from that within a few blocks. So much so close!
