Apr 8 – May 2 in Stunning Guanajuato: Enjoy "UNESCO Magic" & Views

Guanajuato, Gto, Mexico

We have a house-sitting opportunity in the heart of Guanajuato, a UNESCO World Heritage site, from mid January thru mid February.

You'll have the chance to experience the rich cultural atmosphere of this historic city, with its colonial charm, vibrant plazas, and lively festivities. Ring in the new year surrounded by breathtaking views, local traditions, and the warmth of our cozy home, complete with sweet pets and a welcoming environment.

Perfect for those seeking a festive yet peaceful escape!

We are:

  • A five-minute stroll to Embajadoras Park/Garden and Market

  • 10 minutes to Centro

  • 15 minutes to Jardin de la Union and Teatro Juarez

Accommodations:

You will have full access to the entire downstairs of our comfortable home, which includes:

  • Recently renovated living room with a huge picture window offering stunning views of the city and mountains

  • Dining room

  • Office/guest room

  • Bathroom with shower

  • Bedroom

  • Large terrace with a built-in charcoal grill and washing machine

  • Front plazuela, with a pretty fountain and peaceful garden environment

Our home is equipped with fast, reliable Wi-Fi, a TV with Netflix, YouTube, and more (via Roku), and a modern kitchen featuring an induction cooktop, dishwasher, newer refrigerator, and a countertop oven/toaster.

Location: Situated in a safe callejon, our home requires climbing approximately 40 stairs (or more, depending on the direction), so it’s best suited for someone in good physical condition and without a car, as we do not have a driveway or parking available. Public transportation is readily accessible, with buses, taxis, Uber, and more available in Guanajuato.

Responsibilities

  • Water outside plants at least once or twice a week

  • Care for our two sweet dogs (one is older, and needs a little extra TLC - but no meds or anything too intense at all - she will NOT ask to be let out, so you will just need to let her out after she eats, and a few times a day. She's very good when you take that initiative.)

  • Tend to our two indoor kitties who live in separate areas of the house

  • Look after (feed 2x day by scattering seeds in his encloser, and change water and clean bowl every 2-3 days, or as needed, sweep enclosure every 3-4 days) a sweet rescue pigeon who has his own hut outside, and a goldfish in our fountain

  • Look (feed 1x day and change water, clean bowls daily, and change cage paper every other day) after our rescue parakeet (indoors)

Additional Information

April and early May are wonderful times to visit Guanajuato, as the city enjoys warm sunny days, clear skies, and the vibrant energy of spring. Temperatures are comfortable during the day, often in the mid-70s to low-80s°F, with cooler evenings that make it perfect for strolling through the historic plazas and colorful callejones.

This time of year also brings a lively cultural calendar. Semana Santa (Holy Week) and the following Semana de Pascua often include traditional processions, concerts, and community celebrations throughout the city. In late April, Guanajuato also hosts the Festival Medieval, a popular event featuring historical reenactments, music, artisan markets, and performances inspired by medieval Europe. Throughout the spring, the University of Guanajuato continues its academic season, bringing theater performances, classical music recitals, gallery openings, and cultural workshops to venues across the city.

Spring is also an ideal season for exploration. The hills surrounding the city begin to turn green, jacaranda and bougainvillea add bursts of color to the streets, and outdoor cafés and terraces are full of life. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks through Jardín de la Unión, take in panoramic views from the Pípila monument, or plan easy day trips to nearby destinations like San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, or the historic Valenciana mining district.

Popular sites and activities in and around Centro include:

  • Exploring the historic Callejón del Beso

  • Visiting the iconic Teatro Juárez

  • Enjoying the atmosphere of Jardín de la Unión

  • Touring the Alhóndiga de Granaditas

  • Visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato

  • Strolling through Valenciana

During your stay, you can also enjoy the weekly market at Parque Embajadoras, along with local bakeries, fruit stands, and neighborhood shops—all within a short walk.
