Search our database for assignments. Once you have located candidates that meet your expectations, contact them via email. Send a clear and concise message to the homeowner. Many homeowners do not advertise their assignments; they prefer to search the database and contact the house sitter of their choice.
These are the affairs that you have to cover when contacting an owner:
v Ask if they still need a sitter and tell them when are you available.
v Explain why you want to house sit and mention your qualifications.
v Tell them about other assignments that you have had before.
v Give some references. Your references should be prepared to say
how long have the known you and if whether they would leave
you their home to sit.
v Tell a little about yourself.
v Mention your experiences with pets and plants.
v Establish your disposition to leave a security deposit if needed,
and to sign an agreement including the expectations of the
assignment. Some homeowners ask for a security deposit to
cover the owner for any accidental breakage and for the use of
phone and other utility bills. It is usually an amount equal to one
month of the current market rent. It has to be agreed as to who
will hold the funds (usually the owner). Be specific about the
circumstances under which the funds will be returned at the end
of the assignment. The parties should agree whether the utility
bills are to be deducted form the deposit or paid separately.
v Be prepared for a telephone interview.
v Discuss in detail what the homeowner expects and if you can meet
the expectations.
v Take your time and follow your intuition.
